The Department is pleased to announce the posting of The ISIR Guide 2003-2004. This guide assists financial aid administrators (FAAs) in interpreting student information from an Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR), which is an electronic record that is sent to the institution. The term ISIR refers to all processed student information records that are sent electronically directly to institutions by the Central Processing System (CPS).

The SAIG EasyAccess client was removed from the FSAdownload Web site. The SAIG EasyAccess mainframe/midrange client will now be available via CPS/SAIG Technical Support. In order to access this client simply contact CPS/SAIG and provide your TG ID and your school code or applicable identifier. A new version of the SAIG Host Communication Guide has been posted with this updated process documented in the installation section.

EDconnect Version 5.2.0, which transmits Title IV data through the Internet, is now available to download. An updated Cover Letter, Installation Guide and EDconnect 5.X Error Code List are available to assist you as you install and use the software. An automated process will guide you through an expired password change as well as a more descriptive warning message has been included with this release. In addition, the mailbox query portion of the transmission process was enhanced for greater speed. This will be especially noticeable for those of you using high volume mailboxes.

This guide provides information for the Renewal Application Process for the 2003-2004 award year and a summary of the major changes. Information includes changes to the Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (Renewal FAFSA), a schedule of important dates, procedures for requesting PINs using the FAA Access to CPS Online Web site, and the record layouts for requesting PINs individually by SSN (Type 2 PIN Request).

The Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) Host Communications Guide for Mainframe and Midrange Users Version 1.3 is now available to download. This new version includes, updated information in the Overview, Section 3: Security, Section 4: Communication Procedures, Appendix A, Appendix B and Appendix D: Trouble Shooting. The guide is designed to meet the reference needs of programmers and data processing staff who transmit Title IV data via a mainframe or midrange client.

Updated Initialization Files for both ASCII and EBCDIC systems are now available to download. These files are used with EasyAccess software to transmit Title IV data via a mainframe or midrange client.

The Department is pleased to announce the release of Direct Loan (DL) Tools for Windows, Version 2.0. This software product is a multi-cycle application designed to help you perform the following tasks: rebuild loan and disbursement data in EDExpress using an automated process; compare the 732 and/or SAS reports to loans and actual disbursements recorded in EDExpress or an external file, and/or compare the reports to the DL Tools Cash Database; print the 732 and/or SAS reports in readable formats; and track cash receipts (drawdowns) and returns of excess cash for Direct Loan. This product’s Installation Guide and Cover Letter are also available at this site.

The Department is pleased to announce the 2002-2003 Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) Technical Reference version 3.4 is now available. This version supersedes all previous versions of the COD Technical Reference. The COD Technical Reference v3.4 is intended for 2002-2003 Full Participants only. However, the following chapters within the COD Technical Reference v3.4 are applicable to all participants: School Testing Guide, Phase-In Test Cases Guide, and system security information within the COD Implementation Guide.

The Department is pleased to announce the availability of EDExpress for Windows 2002-2003, Version 8.1. EDExpress has five software modules: Global, Application Processing, Packaging, Direct Loan, and Pell. This version expands EDExpress to include both the Direct Loan and Pell Grant modules for the 2002-2003 award cycle as well as incorporates other changes to the software. The Installation Guide, Cover Letter, Direct Loan Desk Reference, and Pell Desk Reference are also available through this site. An updated school code list file, as of January 8, 2002, is now available for
download on the FAFSASM Express download site. This file will allow any
FAFSASM Express users to update the school code database of their installed
FAFSASM Express application to the most recent available list.

A new FAFSASM Express version 7.2 has been released. The new release includes updates to the application transmission protocol that determines the mode with which applications will be routed to the Central Processing System for processing. This update will be transparent to the user, and it should not affect in any distinctive way the application process for any current FAFSASM Express user.

Please read the FAFSASM Express announcement posted on both the Council for Opportunity in Education Web site located at www.trioprograms.org and the U.S. Department of Education's, Office of Postsecondary Education, Higher Education Programs, Office of Federal TRIO Programs Web site located at www.ed.gov/offices/OPE/HEP/trio/ before using this product. This announcement describes the steps for getting started with FAFSASM Express. Also available on this site is the software installation guide.
